About Child Abuse and Neglect
Being a parent is a hard job. It’s extra hard for parents who have low incomes, who lack family connections, or who parent under other difficult circumstances. While child abuse and neglect can happen in any family, it is far more likely to occur where these and other challenging problems make the tough job parenting even tougher.

There are many harmful effects of child abuse and neglect. Some are short term and some are long term. One of the most obvious is the impact is has is on the family. In homes where severe abuse and neglect are discovered, the children are often be removed for their own safety. The removal might be temporary or permanent depending on the circumstances. Removing the children might keep them safe from further abuse and neglect but it creates disruption and stresses for the  the family.

In every case, the children are innocent victims. But they suffer the most. Severe child abuse and neglect can cause serious injury to children or even death. That is why prevention is so important. And you can help.
