Being a parent is a hard job. It’s extra hard for parents who have low incomes, who lack family connections, or who parent under other difficult circumstances. There are many harmful effects of child abuse and neglect. Some are short term and some are long term. One of
the most obvious is the impact is has is on the family. In homes where severe abuse and neglect are discovered the children are often be removed for their own safety. The removal might be temporary or permanent depending on the circumstances. Removing the children might keep them safe from further abuse and neglect but it creates disruption and stresses for the family.
In every child abuse and neglect case, the children are innocent victims and they are the ones who are the most at risk.
Severe forms of child abuse and neglect can cause serious injury to children or even death. That is why the prevention of child abuse and neglect is so important.
